Job Description

Varo is seeking an experienced attorney to support Human Resources and business partners on employment law matters, as well as manage non-employment litigation and oversee third-party claims. This role involves leading complex legal projects and providing pragmatic, risk-weighted advice on a broad range of employment, benefits, and related compliance matters.

Responsibilities

• Advise on employment law matters (hiring, terminations, discrimination, etc.)
• Monitor new laws and regulations
• Draft and negotiate employment agreements
• Design and lead employment law training
• Manage arbitrations and pre-filing demands
• Draft/review litigation documents
• Manage outside counsel for litigation
• Support employment aspects of M&A
• Provide strategic advice
• Respond to legal inquiries

Requirements

• J.D. with top academic credentials
• Admitted to practice law in California or Utah
• 7-9+ years of employment law and litigation experience
• Benefits experience (ERISA, fiduciary compliance)
• Executive compensation experience
• Strong negotiation skills
• Process-oriented with a focus on improvement
• Self-starter with minimal supervision
• Strong integrity and ethics
