Job Description

Upwork is seeking a Motion Design Systems Expert to establish reusable motion tokens, scalable guidelines, and cross-platform implementation for their Next Gen Design System. The role involves defining motion tokens, creating system-level motion principles, translating principles into patterns, and enabling the team to confidently apply motion after the contract ends.

Responsibilities

• Define motion tokens (duration, easing curves, delays)
• Align tokens with engineering feasibility
• Create system-level motion principles
• Document when to use motion
• Define accessibility standards
• Translate principles into patterns for components
• Provide Figma prototypes and animation examples
• Partner with engineers for implementation
• Run workshops and reviews

Requirements

• Experience building motion systems at scale
• Fluency in design and engineering language
• Hands-on skills (tokens, animations, Figma libraries)
• Strategic thinking ability
• Comfortable teaching and enabling a team
