Upwork is seeking a Senior Lead AI/ML Engineer to drive the next generation of agentic intelligence through human-machine collaboration. This role involves leading the development of systems and protocols for AI Agents, supporting both internal and external developers through APIs and SDKs, and contributing to the evolution of human-machine collaboration at Upwork.

Responsibilities

• Architect and implement scalable infrastructure for LLM-based Agentic systems
• Design APIs, SDKs, and internal tooling to accelerate AI agent adoption
• Drive developer advocacy through technical content and samples
• Align technical solutions with product strategy
• Provide consulting and support to teams integrating with the agentic marketplace
• Contribute to AI/ML research initiatives

Requirements

• Proven experience designing and deploying agent architectures or LLM-powered workflows
• Strong engineering foundation in Python and Agent frameworks
• Demonstrated success building developer platforms, APIs, SDKs, or frameworks
• Familiarity with developer relations or solutions engineering
• Growth mindset and strong communication skills
