Job Description

The Associate Planning Engineer coordinates and performs technical studies related to the interconnection of new generation, transmission, and load facilities to the New York State transmission system. This role involves coordinating with various departments, responding to inquiries, and assisting in the development of reports and documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews proposed project facilities and modeling data
  • Prepares base cases for interconnection studies
  • Provides technical coordination with project developers and transmission owners
  • Performs or reviews power flow, short circuit, and stability analysis
  • Evaluates system upgrade requirements and develops cost estimates
  • Prepares and reviews interconnection study reports
  • Participates in project study meetings

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • Concentration in electric power system engineering preferred
  • Knowledge of Power Flow (PSS/E & TARA), Transfer Capability Analysis (TARA), Stability (PSS/E), and Short Circuit (ASPEN) software is desired
  • Good teamwork, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical documents
  • Ability to apply advanced mathematical principles
