Job Description

The NYISO is seeking a full-time Planning Engineer to coordinate, perform, and review technical studies related to the interconnection of new generation, transmission, and load facilities to the New York State transmission system. This role involves reviewing project facilities, preparing base cases, providing technical coordination, and performing technical analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews proposed project facilities and modeling data
  • Prepares base cases for interconnection studies
  • Provides technical coordination with stakeholders
  • Performs or reviews technical analysis (steady state, short circuit, stability)
  • Evaluates system upgrade requirements and develops cost estimates
  • Prepares and reviews interconnection study reports
  • Leads or participates in project study meetings
  • Participates in stakeholder meetings

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering required, power systems concentration preferred
  • 3+ years of experience in power system planning or design
  • Experience with power flow, short circuit, and transient stability software
  • Knowledge of Siemens PTI PSS/E, PowerGEM TARA, and ASPEN
  • Knowledge of reliability standards and practices
