Job Description

The NYISO is seeking a full-time Senior Planning Engineer to perform power system security and adequacy analyses, focusing on long-term reliability needs assessments and resource adequacy using specialized software tools. This role involves applying tariff knowledge, developing reports, and supporting regional planning studies.

Responsibilities

  • Resource adequacy system analysis and modeling
  • Applying NYISO tariffs to planning processes
  • Developing engineering study reports and manuals
  • Evaluating future bulk power system reliability
  • Leading resource adequacy analysis in the CSPP
  • Providing resource adequacy support to other CSPP aspects
  • Performing regional resource adequacy planning studies
  • Leading compliance studies (NYSRC, NPCC, NERC)
  • Participating in industry working groups
  • Coordinating with internal departments and external stakeholders
  • Preparing reports and presentations
  • Representing NYISO on industry committees
  • Leading and supporting team members
  • Improving modeling and study processes

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (Master's preferred)
  • 5+ years of power system planning experience
  • Experience with resource adequacy software (GE MARS, PowerGem SERVM, Plexos)
  • Knowledge of MATLAB, Python, statistics, and data analytics (desirable)
  • Understanding of NPCC, NERC, NYSRC, and FERC requirements
  • Strong analytical and communication skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications
