Job Description

The NYISO is seeking a Technical Specialist/Senior Planning Engineer to develop and execute strategic efforts for transmission planning, adapting to New York's changing energy landscape and clean energy objectives. This role involves state-wide engineering coordination, system outlook studies, public policy implementation, and tariff enhancements, ensuring a reliable and efficient electricity system.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement transmission planning strategies
  • Lead technical modeling for economic and public policy planning
  • Coordinate with stakeholders on grid planning
  • Review and revise NYISO tariffs
  • Promote innovative planning methods
  • Provide expert assistance in system planning
  • Develop study reports and procedures
  • Coordinate with internal and external groups
  • Represent NYISO on industry committees
  • Mentor team members

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Economics, or Applied Science
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • 10 years experience for Technical Specialist, 5-7 years for Senior Engineer in related field
  • Knowledge of New York’s transmission system and energy policies
  • Proficiency in power system analysis tools (PSS/E, TARA, MARS, Plexos)
  • Familiarity with NERC, FERC requirements
  • Strong analytical and communication skills
