Job Description

SmithRx is seeking a Senior Database Administrator with hands-on experience designing and administering cloud-based database systems. The role involves ensuring the reliability and efficiency of the data infrastructure, including maintenance, upgrades, monitoring, performance tuning, scaling, and query optimization, supporting a rapidly growing user base.

Responsibilities

• Manage and maintain PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, and Athena databases on AWS Cloud
• Monitor database performance and proactively resolve issues
• Design and implement growth strategies for databases
• Implement high security standards to protect PHI data
• Ensure compliance with HIPAA, SOC2, and other regulations
• Design and implement BCP and DR plans
• Develop and maintain a pipeline for data restoration
• Collaborate with security team on risk analysis
• Collaborate with development teams on architectural design
• Work with Data Engineering team on ETL jobs
• Support software development teams with coding practices and query tuning

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in Database Administration
• BS or advanced degree in computer science or related field
• Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redis, Redshift, DynamoDB, BigQuery, MongoDB, Cassandra, Snowflake)
• Deep understanding of AWS Database services (RDS, Aurora, Redshift, DynamoDB)
• Ability to identify and resolve performance bottlenecks
• Experience with monitoring tools (Cloudwatch, DataDog)
• Experience with change management practices
• Experience with infrastructure automation and systems reliability
• Experience working in regulated environments (GDPR, HIPAA)
• Strong scripting skills (SQL, Python, Shell)
