Job Description

Quizlet is seeking a Principal Engineer to lead the architecture, operations, and performance of their foundational database infrastructure. This role involves scaling database systems, optimizing performance, providing technical leadership, ensuring data lifecycle management, and maintaining high availability and cost efficiency.

Responsibilities

• Lead architectural plan for scaling database systems
• Deep performance optimization across database systems
• Lead, mentor, and guide SRE/Platform engineers
• Own resilience of the data tier including backup and recovery
• Architect solutions for 99.99% data availability
• Act as technical owner for data-related cost optimization

Requirements

• Deep experience with distributed transactional systems
• Expert knowledge of Cloud Spanner, PlanetScale MySQL, and BigQuery
• Experience with large-scale analytical data warehousing
• Proven ability to define global data strategies
• Experience leading design and implementation of highly available data systems
• Extensive experience with cloud-native architecture on GCP
