Newsweek is seeking an experienced full-time Weekend News Editor to lead coverage during weekend shifts. This role involves directing a team, assigning stories, overseeing breaking news, and collaborating with other desks to deliver timely and engaging news to a U.S. and global audience.

Responsibilities

• Lead weekend news coverage
• Find, commission, write, edit, and publish stories
• Produce breaking news stories and live blogs
• Monitor newswires and social media
• Manage and develop a team of reporters
• Use SEO and visual storytelling
• Foster a proactive newsroom culture
• Collaborate with other editors
• Uphold journalistic standards
• Set headlines and lead images

Requirements

• Minimum 5 years’ journalism experience
• Editorial leadership or team management experience
• Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field
• Exceptional news judgment and editing skills
• Experience with breaking news coverage
• Strong familiarity with SEO and analytics
• Ability to work under pressure
• Proactive and adaptable
• Experience with digital newsrooms
