Job Description

Commonwealth Fusion Systems is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to design components for the Central Solenoid (CS) magnet, a critical part of the SPARC fusion device. This role involves all stages of the product lifecycle, from initial design to production support, and requires close collaboration with other teams to meet project requirements.

Responsibilities

• Design and analyze mechanical structures using hand calculations and FEA
• Present designs for peer and executive review
• Integrate with CFS methodologies for analysis and documentation
• CAD and Drafting of components
• Develop test plans and support test execution
• Support production on the production floor
• Design test or tooling hardware

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
• Some industry experience (including internship)
• 3+ years experience in a heavy engineering field
• Experience with dynamic electromagnetic loading
• CAD (NX preferred)
• Mechanical FEA (Ansys preferred)
• Mechanical first principles
• Understanding of thermal and electrical resistance networks
• Understanding of fluid dynamics
