Job Description

Commonwealth Fusion Systems is seeking a Computational Materials Engineer to support the development of materials for fusion power plants. The role involves physics-based modeling, synthetic data generation, and first-principles modeling to understand material behavior in extreme environments, collaborating with engineers to prioritize experimental work and improve material design.

Responsibilities

  • Use and build computational toolsets to predict material properties
  • Develop material design curves for tokamak applications
  • Identify gaps in knowledge and experimental capability
  • Benchmark material property variability
  • Collaborate on data workflows
  • Support writing materials standard specifications
  • Stay current with modeling techniques

Requirements

  • MS in Materials Science Engineering, Applied Physics, or related field
  • 3+ years’ experience in materials science
  • Implementation of codes for material property calculations
  • Building predictive models for extreme environments
  • Validation of models with experimental data
  • Understanding of process-structure-properties principles
  • Understanding of materials simulation methods
  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally
  • Excellent organizational skills
