Job Description

Commonwealth Fusion Systems is seeking a Diagnostician to contribute to the assembly of the SPARC tokamak, aiming to achieve net fusion energy. The role involves shepherding diagnostic sub-systems through design, integration, and commissioning, collaborating with a team to deliver measurements on a fast timeline. Responsibilities

  • Shepherd diagnostic sub-systems through final design
  • Integrate technical input from experts
  • Develop assembly, installation, calibration, and commissioning plans
  • Integrate diagnostic into plant-level and real-time plasma control systems
  • Participate in testing and operation of diagnostic systems
  • Contribute to a strong safety culture
  • Collaborate with designers and analysts

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering field
  • Participation in the design of a scientific instrument for magnetically confined fusion
  • Demonstrated use of scientific instruments for operational/research missions
  • Software development skills (Python, Matlab, C++)
  • Hands-on knowledge of diagnostic systems
  • Ability to understand engineering and physics concepts
