Job Description

Commonwealth Fusion Systems is seeking a Manager to lead the ionizing radiation diagnostics team for the SPARC project. This role involves providing leadership to scientists and engineers, managing budget and schedule, and ensuring the successful design, procurement, and operation of diagnostics to measure neutron, gamma, X-ray, and vacuum ultraviolet emission from the plasma.

Responsibilities

• Support and strengthen the ionizing radiation diagnostics team
• Lead the design, procurement, and assembly of SPARC’s ionizing radiation diagnostics
• Reduce complexity in SPARC diagnostics
• Manage scope, budget, schedule, and technical risk
• Manage space and QA/QC for diagnostics
• Develop plans for diagnostics integration into control systems
• Ensure efficient operation of diagnostics
• Supervise a team of ~10 engineers and scientists

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering field
• Experience developing scientific or industrial instrumentation utilizing ionizing radiation
• Understanding of ionizing radiation and safety issues
• Demonstrated leadership experience
• Ability to direct staff on complex tasks
• Experience managing a budget at or above $1 million
