Job Description

Commonwealth Fusion Systems is seeking a skilled Equipment Technician to support the build, maintenance, and continuous improvement of complex equipment used in both the HTS and characterization lab. This role involves working with advanced vacuum systems, thermal processes, instrumentation, and large-scale assemblies in a fast-paced, R&D-focused environment.

Responsibilities

• Assemble, operate, and maintain custom equipment
• Perform mechanical and electrical troubleshooting
• Support equipment integration, testing, and commissioning
• Maintain lab infrastructure and ensure safety compliance
• Conduct preventive maintenance on key systems
• Perform helium leak checks and support upgrades
• Fabricate and repair cable harnesses and fixturing
• Use test equipment for diagnostics and data acquisition
• Keep documentation up to date
• Contribute to lab cleanliness and process improvements

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience supporting industrial, R&D, or manufacturing equipment
• Strong hands-on skills with mechanical assembly and vacuum systems
• Familiarity with vacuum technology principles
• Experience servicing or refurbishing pumps
• Working knowledge of low- and high-voltage electrical systems
• Ability to troubleshoot electrical and instrumentation systems
• Functional understanding of electrical codes and safety standards
• Strong safety mindset and experience with OSHA and LOTO protocols
• Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs
• Dedication to safety to mitigate industrial hazards
