Job Description

Commonwealth Fusion Systems is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join their R&D and equipment design team, focusing on building the next generation of thin-film deposition technology. The role involves designing, implementing, and maintaining advanced R&D equipment, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and mentoring engineering staff.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and implementation of R&D equipment
• Lead design reviews
• Generate and maintain interfaces with engineering subsystems
• Report project progress
• Collaborate with scientists and engineers
• Mentor engineering staff
• Drive projects and deliver results

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
• 8+ years of experience with 5+ years as a senior mechanical design engineer
• Experience with R&D systems and manufacturing equipment
• Ability to conceive novel solutions
• Expertise with 3D modeling (SolidWorks, NX preferred)
• Experience with FEA tools (COMSOL, ANSYS)
• Ability to select and qualify vendors
• Demonstrated leadership ability
• Strong communication skills
