Job Description

Commonwealth Fusion Systems is seeking a talented technical intern to join their team and contribute to the development of commercially viable fusion power plants. The intern will be involved in modeling, trade-space analysis, literature reviews, and problem-solving related to quench and cable systems, as well as analyzing experimental data and improving analysis pipelines.

Responsibilities

  • Develop 1D and 2D models to simulate thermal, electromagnetic, and wave mechanics
  • Conduct trade-space analysis of design parameters
  • Perform literature reviews on quench and cable physics
  • Apply a first-principles approach to solve R&D problems
  • Analyze experimental data of superconducting magnet tests
  • Run computational electromagnetic + thermal models
  • Improve analysis pipelines with scripting and code development
  • Perform statistical and meta-analyses of data sets
  • Explore numerical sensitivities of models
  • Participate in team discussions and presentations

Requirements

  • Strong academic background in physics or related STEM field
  • Proficiency in 1D and 2D modeling tools (COMSOL, ANSYS, MATLAB, Python)
  • Exposure to advanced electromagnetism coursework
  • Interest in numerical algorithms for physical problems
  • Exposure to statistical analysis tools
  • Exposure to instrumentation and sensor science
  • Interest in numerical simulation of superconductors
  • Skilled at generating presentation materials
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
