Job Description

Sidecar Health is seeking a Director of Underwriting to lead their group underwriting function. This role is a player-coach, requiring both hands-on underwriting of complex cases and management/development of an underwriting team. The Director will collaborate with Sales and Client Success to drive profitable growth and strengthen the company's market position.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite large and complex group cases
• Lead, mentor, and develop underwriting team
• Establish underwriting guidelines and policies
• Partner with Sales for new business growth
• Provide creative underwriting solutions
• Collaborate with Actuarial, Product, Finance, and Client Success
• Review and approve escalated underwriting decisions
• Monitor underwriting performance
• Build relationships with brokers and reinsurers
• Promote accountability and continuous improvement

Requirements

• 8+ years of group underwriting experience in health insurance
• Proven player-coach ability
• Success partnering with Sales
• Knowledge of underwriting methodologies and funding arrangements
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Executive presence and communication skills
• Familiarity with reinsurance preferred
• Adaptability in a fast-paced environment
• Bachelor’s degree
