Job Description

Muon is seeking a Staff Mission Lead Systems Engineer to lead the technical aspects of specific missions, from concept to on-orbit operations. This role involves customer interaction, requirements development, system modeling, risk management, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure the success of high-reliability systems for government and commercial programs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead mission conceptualization, design, and development
  • Tailor and implement the Muon mission design process
  • Translate customer needs into technical requirements
  • Serve as primary technical contact for missions
  • Manage requirements traceability and verification
  • Define mission CONOPS and manage subsystem budgets
  • Identify and mitigate mission risks
  • Assess and coordinate design changes
  • Lead design and test reviews
  • Monitor on-orbit spacecraft performance
  • Provide technical direction to systems, hardware, and software teams
  • Contribute to engineering process improvement

Requirements

  • M.S. or higher in engineering with 10+ years of experience in mission architecture or spacecraft design
  • Experience as a technical lead on a major space program for USG, DoD, or IC
  • Experience with USG/IC acquisition programs and standards
  • Strong understanding of USG/IC contracts
  • Experience interfacing with external customers
  • Proven system integration and delivery experience
  • Experience in formal requirements management
  • Demonstrated project management and collaboration skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Willingness to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance
