Job Description

Hatch is seeking a Staff or Principal Firmware Engineer to lead the technical direction of their embedded systems, focusing on designing scalable, reliable, and maintainable systems for their sleep products. This is a hands-on role involving architecture, debugging, mentorship, and ensuring reliability across millions of devices.

Responsibilities

• Learn firmware architecture and development process
• Contribute to the firmware codebase
• Develop understanding of product roadmap
• Participate in incident triage and root-cause analysis
• Champion engineering best practices and mentor engineers
• Debug and resolve complex system issues
• Architect and lead system refactors
• Define and drive technical direction
• Lead firmware design for next-generation products

Requirements

• 10+ years of firmware/embedded systems experience with technical leadership
• Hands-on technical leadership style
• Deep knowledge of firmware development for connected/IoT devices
• Experience with ESP32/FreeRTOS is a plus
• Expertise in wireless communication (BLE, Wi-Fi) and OTA updates
• Strong understanding of embedded observability and testability
• Track record of mentoring engineers
• Interest in leveraging AI tools
• Experience with hardware design is a plus
