Job Description

Irradiant Technologies is seeking a Senior Optical Design Engineer to design and optimize 3D nanostructured optical components, working at the intersection of optics, materials science, and advanced fabrication. The role involves conceptual design, simulation, layout, and prototype validation to create real-world photonic systems.

Responsibilities

• Design complex 3D optical components and systems
• Simulate light propagation and system performance
• Collaborate with fabrication engineers
• Co-design systems integrating multiple optical components
• Analyze device performance through simulation and data
• Develop design libraries and automation tools
• Communicate design intent and results
• Demonstrate feasibility of novel ideas

Requirements

• Experience in optical design, modeling, and simulation
• Deep experience with optical design software (Zemax, Lumerical, COMSOL)
• Experience collaborating with fabrication/manufacturing teams
• Balance design thinking with manufacturing considerations
• Strong foundation in wave optics and light-matter interaction
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced startup environment
